| March 1987...the launch date. Our humble beginnings were as a skate park.
Outdoors and only $1 to skate all day. For three years we had some of the biggest stars in
skateboarding visit us and skate one of the largest metal ramps in the country. It was
super fun, 80's style. As skating started to evolve, we moved the park indoors, catering
more to the "new" street-style and mini ramp set-ups. Through the 90's the shop
grew from a 400 square foot location to eventually the site on the Drag and then Rio
Grande where we had hip-hop and punk shows every weekend. Lots of fun times. We made
videos and started ATX skateboards. We worked closely with the City and got the first park
opened in the Clarksville neighborhood, donating our ramps and props to get it started. We
continued working with Parks and Rec and were able to move the props over to the Austin
Rec Center. Meanwhile, the shop moved to our current location on MLK and we began the push
for the Mable Davis cement park. After years of hard work and perseverance, we conquered
over the nay-sayers and Mable Davis was built. Now, we push on toward the future with a
hot and fresh look to the shop, incredible new product daily, and working directly with
the City to build a new park at the Austin Rec Center. Thanks for your loyalty and
friendship. Hang on, the ride is just beginning! |
