We've worked closely with the City of Austin for over a decade getting public skate parks built and are working with them now on the newest project soon to be constructed at the Austin Rec Center(see below for more info). MABEL DAVIS SKATE PARK

Austin's premier public cement skate park. Go there today and SKATE! It's FREE! Take IH-35 to Woodward. Exit Woodward and go East. Go thru the first intersection and the next light is Parker Lane. Turn left on Parker Lane and go 1 block down past the credit union and there it is. Pads and helmet are not mandatory, but recommended especially for the bowl. At this time there is no public phone, so take a cell phone in case of emergency.

NEW SKATE PARK UPDATE:

Ok...here's the latest info on the new Austin Skatepark located at the Austin Rec Center:

Due to delays in permitting and other construction and engineering related issues, the timeline has been pushed back. The design is completed and will be confirmed by City officials soon. Permitting will then proceed and be sent for approval starting approximately after the first of the year. Once permits have been achieved, then construction schedules can begin. Ground-breaking is tentatively set for May-June 2009, with a tentative completion date Fall 2009.

While this delay is unfortunate, once completed this park will definitely be worth the wait. The latest design is amazing. The middle rest area with the treslis covering has been removed and has been replaced by wedges. The bowl design has also been changed and updated to meet the desired needs of bikers and skaters alike. There have also been a few more minor changes as well. We will be posting pictures of the re-freshed design as soon as they are made available.

ART IN PUBLIC PLACES:
The City of Austin Art in Public Places (AIPP) program of the Cultural Arts Division has commissioned Austin artist Chris Levack to create art to be integrated into the BMX/Skate Park project. We are extremely pleased with the choice. Chris is amazing!

The new construction of a combination skate park and BMX bike course will cover 30,000 square feet, on an acre next to the Austin Recreation Center, near 12th Street and Lamar. Project design will be provided by New Line Skate Parks, a Canadian firm with experience in designing over 100 skate parks worldwide. In addition to activity and spectator areas, the park will also include a restroom facility, lighting, shade structures, benches or seating, water fountains and landscaping.

March 1987...the launch date. Our humble beginnings were as a skate park. Outdoors and only $1 to skate all day. For three years we had some of the biggest stars in skateboarding visit us and skate one of the largest metal ramps in the country. It was super fun, 80's style. As skating started to evolve, we moved the park indoors, catering more to the "new" street-style and mini ramp set-ups. Through the 90's the shop grew from a 400 square foot location to eventually the site on the Drag and then Rio Grande where we had hip-hop and punk shows every weekend. Lots of fun times. We made videos and started ATX skateboards. We worked closely with the City and got the first park opened in the Clarksville neighborhood, donating our ramps and props to get it started. We continued working with Parks and Rec and were able to move the props over to the Austin Rec Center. Meanwhile, the shop moved to our current location on MLK and we began the push for the Mable Davis cement park. After years of hard work and perseverance, we conquered over the nay-sayers and Mable Davis was built. Now, we push on toward the future with a hot and fresh look to the shop, incredible new product, and working directly with the City to build a new park at the Austin Rec Center.
